TERMS & CONDITIONS
· Payment Terms: Net 30 days from invoice date, unless otherwise approved by Onyx Fire Protection Services Inc. credit department.
· Interest Charges: 2% monthly interest may apply to unpaid balances beyond approved credit terms (OAC). Onyx Fire reserves the right to adjust or revoke credit privileges. All materials remain Onyx Fire property until fully paid.
· Pricing Validity: Prices valid for 30 days from quotation date; subject to change thereafter or upon final client acceptance.
· Truck Charges: Subject to change; 6% (annual inspections), $35 (monthly inspections).
· Backflow Prevention: Annual testing required by licensed tester; completed reports mandatory for municipal compliance.
· Administration Fee: $95 for internal processing/municipal submission of backflow reports; waived if submitted directly by client.
· Drum Drip Maintenance: Regular drainage required Dec–May; services available upon request (additional charges apply).
· Inspection Criteria: Detailed inspection criteria available (Appendix A) upon request.
EXCLUSIONS & QUALIFIERS
· Special Equipment: Costs for scissor lifts, scaffolding, or specialized ladders beyond standard 8’ ladder are additional.
· Private Water Tanks: Inspection/testing of private gravity tanks quoted separately after evaluation.
· Access Arrangements: Site responsible for arranging/costs for transformer vaults, elevator pits, elevator shafts, hydro rooms. Return visits due to lack of access incur additional charges.
· Reasonable Access: Additional hourly charges apply for delays or overruns due to poor cooperation or inaccessible areas.
· Deficiency Repairs: Excluded unless explicitly authorized. Repairs quoted separately post-inspection.
· Technician Requests: Additional technicians for monitoring panels or site-specific duties incur extra charges.
· Cosmetic Repairs & Disposal: Excludes wall, ceiling, pipe patching/painting. Fire extinguisher disposal incurs additional quoted cost.
· Municipal Water Shutdown: Additional hourly charges apply for public works delays (regular/after-hours rates plus HST).
· Drain Responsibility: Client responsible for ensuring clear drains for sprinkler discharge. Flooding due to clogged drains not Onyx Fire’s responsibility.
· Municipal Submission Fees: Not included in backflow prevention pricing unless stated explicitly.
ADDITIONAL TERMS
· Liability Limitation: Onyx Fire Protection Services Inc. not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages unless directly caused by Onyx Fire’s proven gross negligence.
· Force Majeure: Not responsible for service delays due to events beyond reasonable control (acts of God, pandemics, natural disasters, labour issues, access issues, supply chain delays).
Appendix A: Detailed Inspection Criteria
1. Fire Alarm System Inspection
Performed per NFPA 72 and Ontario Fire Code, Part III, Section 6.2.1
· Activation of all manual electric pull stations to confirm operation and annunciation at the fire alarm and annunciation panels;
· Inspection and activation of heat detectors in all common areas and in suites to verify operation and annunciation at the fire alarm and annunciation panels;
· Inspection and testing of all smoke detectors in common areas with synthetic smoke to verify operation and annunciation at the fire alarm and annunciation panels;
· Inspection and activation of all in-suite A/C smoke alarms to confirm operation and audibility;
· Testing of all speakers, bells, and horns for audibility throughout the building;
· Sensitivity testing of smoke detectors;
· Testing of ancillary devices such as stairwell and elevator fans, elevator recall, magnetic and auto doors per design;
· Testing of fire-fighter phones for intelligible two-way voice communication and correct panel indication;
· Testing of fire alarm and emergency voice communication standby batteries for corrosion, leaks, voltage, and amperage;
· Testing of annunciation panel to verify initiating-circuit zone designation;
· Testing of end-of-line resistors.
2. Emergency Lighting Inspection
Performed per NFPA 101 and Ontario Fire Code, Part VIII, Section 2.7
· Simulated power-failure test to ensure emergency lighting duration;
· Battery and charger voltage/current tests post-light activation;
· Inspection of terminal connections for cleanliness and corrosion;
· Verification of terminal clamp tightness;
· Electrolyte level and specific gravity checks;
· Inspection of battery surface condition.
3. Portable Fire Extinguishers & Fire Hose Inspection
Performed per NFPA 10, NFPA 25, and Ontario Fire Code, Part III, Section 6.6
· Remove extinguishers and inspect pressure loss; weigh non-gauge types per manufacturer specs;
· Visual inspection for damage or vandalism;
· Cataloguing of manufacture date and serial number;
· Standpipe hose inspection for nozzle damage, gasket deterioration, leakage;
· Inspection and re-folding of all hoses; recommend hydrostatic testing if >10 years;
· Tagging, dating, signing, and cataloguing of extinguishers and hoses on report.
4. Wet & Dry Sprinkler System Inspection
Performed per NFPA 25 and Ontario Fire Code, Part III, Section 2.15
· Flow-test through inspector’s test valves to check for blockages;
· Flow and timing test for farthest connection within 60 seconds;
· Activation of tamper, supervisory, flow, and low-pressure switches to confirm panel annunciation;
· Inspection of piping size, pitch, valves, heads, hangers for corrosion/damage;
· Inspection of siamese connections, couplings, collars, fittings, gauges for proper operation.
5. Fire Pump Performance Testing
Conducted per NFPA 25, Section 8.3.3 – Annual Flow Testing
· Flow test each pump at minimum, rated, and peaked flows (50%, 100%, 150%) using pitot or approved “Hose Monster”;
· Record pump suction/discharge pressures and flow measurements;
· Observe relief-valve operation under flow;
· Verify drainage to prevent water damage;
· For electric pumps, run ≥10 minutes; diesel pumps, run ≥30 minutes;
· Inspect motor voltage, RPM, and bearings;
· Provide GPM and pressure curve report.
6. Fire Hydrant Inspection
Performed per NFPA 25 and Ontario Fire Code, Part III, Section 2.19
· Flow and pressure test; leak check at nozzle seals, caps, and body;
· Drain barrel and verify self-draining;
· Inspect body condition, shut-off valve operation and accessibility;
· Inspect cap chains and identify hydrant location for future inspections.
7. FM-200 Suppression System Inspection
Performed per NFPA 12 and Ontario Fire Code, Part IV, Section 1.4
· Determine agent quantity vs. net weight (±95% threshold);
· Inspect piping, fittings, and nozzles for cleanliness and damage;
· Inspect detection and releasing devices and alarms;
· Verify manual pulls and release circuit;
· Battery and circuit integrity checks.
8. Kitchen Suppression System Inspection
Performed per NFPA 96, NFPA 17A, and Ontario Fire Code
· Evaluate system condition and secure mounting;
· Inspect nozzle coverage and piping design;
· Check cylinder pressure and heat sensor operation;
· Replace fusible links semi-annually;
· Activate manual pull, fuel shutoff, and confirm adjacent extinguisher rating.
9. Backflow Preventer Testing
Performed per CAN/CSA B64.10 and Ontario Fire Code, Part V, Section 4.4
· Differential-pressure test of internal assemblies;
· Inspect for corrosion, leaks, and diaphragm integrity;
· Verify isolating valve operation and absence of foreign matter;
· Complete detailed test report for municipal submission.
10. Conventional End-of-Line Resistor Inventory
Performed per CAN/ULC S536-04 and Ontario Fire Code, Section 5.7.11
· Inventory and verify resistor values against design drawings;
· Inspect wiring terminations and junction boxes;
· Document discrepancies and provide corrective-action recommendations.
